Feds take over Cliffside Park counterfeiting case

by The Star-Ledger Continuous News Desk
    Friday July 25, 2008, 7:21 AM

The U.S. Justice Department has taken over the prosecution of a Cliffside Park man accused of running a counterfeiting ring and funneling proceeds to organized crime leaders in Italy, according to a report in The Record.

The report said Giovanni DeMaio, 58, was charged with trademark counterfeiting and criminal weapons possession after Bergen County detectives raided his house on Oncrest Terrace on July 11. FBI agents took DeMaio into custody at a bail hearing Thursday afternoon in Hackensack, according to The Record.
